Halloween

The movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween movie, not a Christmas movie. The movie starts with all the monsters singing about Halloween and horror and scary stuff.

In this movie, everybody’s life literally revolves around Halloween. “Only 364 days until next Halloween!” said one of the monsters. This shows that all of the characters in the movie only care about Halloween because they spend the entire year preparing for it. Only Jack Skellington, the town’s beloved Pumpkin King, discovers Christmastown. He then plots to take over Christmastown and control it by kidnapping Santa Claus.

One reason I believe that The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween movie and not a Christmas movie is because the majority of the characters in the movie all love and worship Halloween.

Another reason is because the animations for the movie are rather creepy to little children and maybe even some adults. The way everything is always dark and there are monsters and skeletons everywhere makes the movie spooky.

Also, the main character of the movie kidnaps Santa Clause, everyone’s favorite fat guy. He kidnaps him to try to rule Christmas. Jack Skellington is the king of Halloweentown. He likes everything scary and dark. So by kidnapping Santa to take over Christmastown, essentially, he would be making Christmas scary and making a second Halloween.

I believe that the movie The Nightmare before Christmas is a Halloween movie. It’s spooky and scary to younger kids, and it invokes very little Christmas spirit.

Christmas

Ever since Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas made its debut in 1993, many critics have fought over one question- is the movie a Christmas or a Halloween movie?

Due to the amount of sparkling lights and Santa hats in the film, how could anyone believe it is a Halloween movie? Nothing about the movie is scary.

Firstly, Santa is in the movie. SANTA. That alone speaks for itself. How could a Halloween movie possibly have Santa in it?

Secondly, one of the most famous songs from the movie is “Whats This?” The song is about Jack Skellington discovering the joy and beauty of Christmas. He instantly falls in love with the season. Everything about Christmas draws Jack in and makes him want to get into the Christmas spirit and spread holiday cheer.

Thirdly, the entire plot of the movie is Jack trying to become Santa Clause, and turning Halloweentown into a Christmas wonderland. He decorates the town with lights, decorated trees and even tries to make it snow.

The Pumpkin King even gives up his position to become Santa Clause, and deliver presents that the people of Halloweentown made. Even though the presents were not toys or candy, he was still trying to spread the Christmas cheer.

I do not see how The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween movie. Due to the amount of upbeat, happy songs, Santa hats and overall holiday cheer, there is no way The Nightmare Before Christmas could be a Halloween movie.
