It is the most wonderful time of the year… or so we’ve all heard, right? Or so Andy Williams tells us. But what makes it ‘the most wonderful time of the year’? What makes Christmas… Christmas?

For those Christmas Charlie Browns out there, the holiday can be annoying. I’m talkin’ the 12 pains of Christmas, am I right? Who knew those lights were going to burn out two days after being hung? And oh, the in-laws! It can get a little stressful.

And for those Griswold Christmas fanatics, the holiday is much more than a day, but a season. And really, this is the way to go. Christmas is so much more than shopping, gifts, lights and pie. It is about tradition, family and warmth. Putting aside all the formalities really puts the holiday in perspective. The festivities are not to be stressed over, but instead made to find joy in the moments to soon become Christmas memories.

I encourage everyone this Christmas season to not yell at Uncle George when he burns the turkey, and to thank Grams for that hand-knit sweater (Sure, the colors do not match and it is three sizes too big, but the thought counts, right?). Take the time to tell your loved ones just how special they are to you. Family and friends last far longer than that new pair of shoes (or so I hope, for everyone’s sake).

Capturing warm-hearted moments and remembering traditions is what the spirit of Christmas is all about. Seriously, forget about how the pine needles shed all over the floor and how if one light goes out, they all go out. Just enjoy the holidays and remember the real reasons for the season: love.
