New coffee shop on the block

Waking up early on a Saturday morning is never ideal. Immediately I craved a cup of coffee. Instead of making one at home, I decided to branch out and try something new. I am a creature of habit, so going to the usual place for a little perk in my day was definitely my first thought. Recently, though, I heard of a new coffee shop here in Ashland just located on Claremont. I headed out my door and went on an adventure to Keat’s Coffee.

All the way from the actual drink itself, to the ambiance that the store has- I love coffee shops. Walking into a place I had never been in before, I had no idea what to expect. Immediately walking in my eyes went straight to the baked goods that were conveniently placed  in a display case near the entry way. The smell of coffee was strong, and the music was loud. The space was very open and bright. There was even an abstract mural, perfect for that coffee shop vibe!

The menu was not big and overwhelming, which is very nice for an indecisive person like myself. Even though I was impressed with the variety of beverages on the board, I got my usual drink; vanilla latte with an espresso shot. I paid the amount that was too much (although the same anywhere else you go) and patiently waited for my latte. The seating arrangements faced a large window that showcases Claremont and the cars passing by. The atmosphere is very relaxing, which is helpful  when doing homework.

I picked up my drink with anticipation and took a sip; to my dismay, the flavor just wasn’t there. In fact, it tasted like a glass of milk that was microwaved. I was not very impressed and felt as though I could have made this at home. Maybe all of their drinks are this way, or maybe it just happened to be mine. Despite the negative experience, I do plan on going back to Keat’s Coffee in the near future. I am eager to try something new in general, and maybe it will have flavor.

If you are interested in going to Keat’s Coffee, they are located at 617 Claremont Avenue. The hours are Thursday-Sunday from 8a.m.-4p.m. I think Keat’s Coffee willdo well for the Ashland when it comes to choosing the next place for a cup of joe.
